Important: This document is a general information template and does not constitute legal advice. It should be reviewed by a qualified UK solicitor to ensure it reflects the company's current practices and circumstances.
This draft statement describes principles for preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in a business and its supply chain. It is general information and must be reviewed against the company’s actual practices before publication.
1. Our commitment
Skycrest Roofing Ltd opposes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking in every form. We are committed to acting ethically and to reducing the risk of modern slavery in our operations and supply chains.
2. Our business and supply chain
Skycrest Roofing Ltd provides roofing, repair and roofline services. Its supply chain may include roofing-material merchants, manufacturers, equipment providers, waste services, professional advisers and specialist subcontractors.
3. Risk awareness
Roofing can face risks linked to labour sourcing, temporary or subcontracted workers, opaque recruitment arrangements and the manufacture of some materials. We take a proportionate, risk-based approach, paying particular attention to unusually low labour costs, withheld identity documents or wages, restricted freedom of movement, unsafe accommodation, coercion, and reluctance to speak without a third party present.
4. Expected standards
- Work must be voluntary and workers must be free to leave in accordance with lawful notice arrangements.
- No worker should pay improper recruitment fees or have identity documents withheld.
- Pay, working time and employment conditions must comply with applicable law.
- Suppliers and subcontractors must not use trafficked, forced, bonded or child labour.
- Concerns must be raised promptly and no person should suffer retaliation for a genuine report.
5. Due diligence
When engaging suppliers or subcontractors, we may consider their reputation, labour practices, right-to-work processes, employment arrangements and willingness to confirm compliance. Where a risk is identified, we may seek further information, require corrective action, suspend work or end the relationship.
6. Reporting concerns
Workers, suppliers, customers and members of the public can raise a concern through our contact page. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999. Concerns can also be reported to the UK Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.
7. Responsibility and review
Senior management is responsible for overseeing this commitment. We will review this statement and our procedures periodically, taking account of changes in the business, supply chain and applicable legal requirements.
8. Status of this statement
This statement describes our current commitment and is published voluntarily unless and until the company meets the criteria that make a formal annual statement mandatory under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It should be formally approved and signed by a director before being relied on as the company’s statutory statement.
